Malaisie Bow Erenhill – Lightweight Reflex Horsebow 15–45 lb

The Malaisie Bow Erenhill is an exceptionally lightweight modern reflex horsebow and the original model in the Malaisie design line.

Available under the Erenhill Brand in draw weights from 15 to 45 lb, it measures 128 cm / 50.4 inches, weighs approximately 330 g / 11.6 oz and has a maximum draw length of 31 inches.

Its modern construction combines fiberglass limbs, teak wood siyahs and handle sections, natural lambskin and a Dacron bowstring.

How did the Malaisie Bow originate?

Malaisie is not the historical name of a traditional Malaysian bow type.

The name reflects the origin of the construction knowledge behind the model.

The basic construction principles were taught to Ota Karas by a bow maker from Malaysia. From that foundation, the Malaisie design was subsequently developed through practical archery experience.

For this reason, the Malaisie Bow is not presented as:

  • a reconstruction of a historical Malaysian bow,

  • a copy of a museum artefact,

  • a documented traditional Southeast Asian bow,

  • a historical composite-bow replica.

It is a modern functional reflex horsebow.

The original Malaisie model

Malaisie is the original model in this design line.

It was later followed by Malaisie v.2, which introduced further changes to the surfaces, grip, arrow pass and overall design.

The original Malaisie retains its own character, particularly:

  • extremely low weight of approximately 330 g,

  • compact dimensions,

  • teak wood structural parts,

  • natural lambskin,

  • simple lightweight construction,

  • the original Malaisie design.

Malaisie and Malaisie v.2 should therefore be considered two different versions developed from the same construction foundation rather than one simply replacing the other.

Exceptionally lightweight – approximately 330 g

One of the defining characteristics of the original Malaisie is its weight of only approximately 330 g / 11.6 oz.

The low physical weight is practical during:

  • longer practice sessions,

  • dynamic shooting,

  • shooting from different positions,

  • 3D archery,

  • travel,

  • horse archery.

Bow weight should not be confused with draw weight.

A 40 or 45 lb version remains a powerful bow even though the bow itself weighs only approximately 330 g.

Compact 128 cm design

The overall length is 128 cm / 50.4 inches.

Its compact dimensions support easy handling during traditional, instinctive, dynamic, 3D and horse archery.

Maximum draw length – 31 inches

The maximum draw length is 31 inches.

Do not exceed this limit.

Actual draw length can vary according to shooting technique, posture and anchor.

Draw weights from 15 to 45 lb

Available draw weights are:

  • 15 lb,

  • 20 lb,

  • 25 lb,

  • 30 lb,

  • 35 lb,

  • 40 lb,

  • 45 lb.

Lower draw weights may be suitable for newer archers and technical practice.

Higher draw weights require appropriate technique and physical conditioning.

Fiberglass limbs

The working limbs are made from fiberglass.

Inspect them before each shooting session for:

  • cracks,

  • delamination,

  • unusual deformation,

  • changes in symmetry,

  • impact damage.

Do not shoot a damaged bow.

Teak wood siyahs

The rigid limb tips – siyahs – are made from teak wood.

They form part of the reflex geometry and guide the bowstring at the ends of the limbs.

Inspect the wood and correct string seating before shooting.

Teak wood handle

The structural handle is also made from teak wood.

Avoid excessive grip pressure, as unnecessarily squeezing the handle can interfere with consistent shooting.

Natural lambskin covering

The original Malaisie uses natural lambskin as part of its surface finish.

The leather contributes to the characteristic appearance of the model but is not the structural working material of the bow.

Protect it from prolonged moisture, abrasion, sharp objects, excessive heat and aggressive cleaning products.

If the leather becomes wet, allow it to dry naturally at normal room temperature.

Dacron bowstring

A 112 cm / 44.1 inch Dacron bowstring is included.

Before shooting, inspect:

  • the fibres,

  • loops,

  • centre serving,

  • correct seating in the siyah grooves.

Do not use a damaged bowstring.

Traditional and instinctive archery

The Malaisie Bow can be used for:

  • traditional archery,

  • instinctive archery,

  • recreational target practice,

  • dynamic shooting,

  • 3D archery.

Accuracy depends primarily on consistent technique and correctly matched arrows.

Thumb draw

The bow can also be used with thumb draw.

With this technique, the string is held primarily by the thumb.

New archers should learn the technique progressively and use appropriate thumb protection.

The maximum draw length of 31 inches must always be respected.

Horse archery

The combination of a 128 cm overall length and a weight of approximately 330 g provides practical characteristics for horse archery.

Its exceptionally low mass makes the bow easy to maneuver around the archer's body.

Mounted archery nevertheless requires appropriate horsemanship and archery training.

3D archery

At approximately 330 g, Malaisie is also very convenient to carry around a longer 3D course.

Its compact dimensions are practical when moving through varied terrain and shooting from different positions.

Choosing suitable arrows

Arrow selection must match both the draw weight of the bow and the archer's actual draw length.

Consider:

  • draw weight,

  • actual draw length,

  • arrow length,

  • spine,

  • total arrow weight,

  • point weight,

  • shooting technique.

The arrow must always be long enough for the archer's complete draw.

What is included?

The package contains:

  • Erenhill Malaisie Bow,

  • Dacron bowstring,

  • string-retaining sleeves,

  • bow cover.

Safety

Never dry-fire the bow.

Do not exceed the maximum draw length of 31 inches.

Before every shooting session, inspect:

  • limbs,

  • siyahs,

  • handle,

  • bowstring,

  • arrows.

Do not use damaged equipment.
